I am not a fan of religious customs for multiple reasons. The main ones are as follows: religious traditions are just an excuse to force people to behave in specific ways. It’s always been a form of cohesive control. These religious zombies will counter that they are not obliged to follow customs, and that they do it out of love for their faith. Just think about how many women wearing a Hijab say this kind of bullshit. You know that if anyone of them defied their custom, there would be hell to pay.
In Nigeria, religious police are on the march, looking for Muslims daring to eat and drink on their pointless and stupid Ramadan. In a country where it can get as hot as 103 degree (or almost 40 Celsius) in the months of February to April, there is apparently no exceptions for the ban on drinking water and eating. The not eating food part is fine. It’s the dangerous idea of not drinking that is dangerous. Not only does it cause spikes in blood pressure, it can impact people with heart conditions, as well as lead to kidney failure. In short, the practice of not drinking water is a particularly dumb one, but you can’t convince a billion idiot believers to stop the dangerous practice.
Not only can you not convince them to stop, but so far over two dozen people have been arrested for having the temerity to defy a religious custom. Now they face a Sharia court, which is another way of saying that a bunch of religious zealot get to dictate the lives of others.
“We do get calls from people who are enraged after seeing people eating in public and we act fast by going to the area to make arrests.” [A Hisbah official] also confirmed the arrest of other people who were seen with “inappropriate haircuts”, wearing shorts above the knee and tricycle drivers mixing male and female passengers.
Can you see the priorities for these morons? They will send you to court for having the wrong haircut, or wearing the wrong kind of shorts. Do you know of any other religion this insecure and petty? Forget about spending time and effort improving the lives of ordinary Nigerians. It’s far more important to make sure that boys and girls are not on the same tricycles!
