If you’ve ever wanted to answer that annoying question, “how could the universe have formed from nothing”, then watch this video. Lawrence Krauss is funny, informative, and if you watch the entire video (it’s over an hour long, so you might need to pause it a few times), he will blow your fucking mind. Lawrence seems like a pretty cool guy. Turns out he wrote a book called “The Physics of Star Trek“. Sounds pretty awesome to me. If you’re a fan of the show, go check it out!

In your face
This is why you have to LOVE Hitchens. Putting to rest the tired old argument that Nazism was a “secular” movement. What a load of bullshit. Everything Hitler and Mussolini did was with the fucking blessing of the Church. The Religious Right wants all of us to forget that messy affair, but luckily guys like Christopher Hitchens are around to kindly repudiate their lies.
On the idea that vaccines cause autism
I ran across this video recently, and I thought you guys would really appreciate hearing from a real scientist what the evidence tells us about the supposed correlation between the MMR vaccine and autism. The videos (part 2 after the jump) are well written, well illustrated, and well narrated. If there are any doubters left (aka Bill Maher), let them watch this video and be done with this nonsense!
The Story of Creation
I just ran across this site, The Thinking Atheist, and I have to admit I’m loving their videos so far. Well produced, funny, and relevant. I’m looking forward to seeing more from these guys!
Carl Sagan Remix!
Here’s a really awesome tribute to Carl Sagan. Who knew he was so techno?
Mr. Deity vs Mr. Skeptic
Alright, I’m not exactly the biggest “Mr. Deity” fan (I find the videos entirely too long, and the whole shtick gets old pretty damn fast), but this latest one with Michael Shermer is actually pretty good. It might also have something to do with the fact I loved his books, and Skeptic Magazine is a quality publication I highly recommend. Still, what is up with his voice? Did he swallow Kermit the frog or something?
Carrie Prejean “highlights”
Trust me when I say there isn’t much to highlight when it comes to bigots. If you still don’t think she is one, just try to imagine her as old, overweight and fat. Then you’d probably want to crucify her, but because she’s so goddamn beautiful, the hateful shit that comes out of her mouth doesn’t have the same impact.
She’s speaking here at a conservative “Value Voters” submit, which is everything you might expect it to be. In this speech, she prides herself on holding a bigoted view of homosexuals and the right for people to marry whomever the fuck they want. Yes Carrie, feel proud that you try and deny people the same basic rights you enjoy. Hurry, go make the world safe again for rich white people!
She also believes few people are as courageous and brave as herself. You’ve been through so much, maybe someone should give you a medal or something!
David Mitchell on terrible religious shows
Excellent video on “putting faith in its place”
His arguments are irrefutable, his narration is spot on, and his little animations are helpful and clear. Could you ask more of an educational video? Don’t you just love the fact that people do these kinds of videos for no other reason than to encourage others to think?
Sam Harris: Faith vs Reason
Sam is a great speaker, and it’s very hard to argue with his logic. He’s the main reason I do this atheist thing (his book, The End of Faith, was like getting hit in the face with a brick. Once you read it, you change). My favorite quote from the videos is “Rationalizing the barbarism we find in the Old Testament merely renders it irrelevant, it doesn’t render these books morally wise. It is faint praise indeed if the best that can be said of scirpture is that it can be now safely ignored” You’re goddamn right, Sam.
Nerdcore!
Ok, so this might not have much to do with atheism, but I still can’t help but post it up with the feeling that any country where the President can give someone a Vulcan salute, perhaps there is hope for humanity yet!
Old school Bill Maher smacks down religion
Here’s an old clip from way back before the mainstream bitch slapped Maher back to cable television. I love how Joe Scarborough can’t seem to find any answers to Bill’s tough criticism of religion. It is all pretty fucking arbitrary, isn’t it?
Why we believe in Gods
If you’ve got a good hour, I recommend listening to this presentation. You can play it in the background without really needing to watch it, so don’t feel like you need to burn your eyes out staring at his blue screen (why do people still use that color in their presentations anyways?). Make sure this is part of your “must watch” list.
OMG, best Pledge of Allegiance ever!
Ok, this is just about the cutest little atheist I’ve seen. “Under Nobody” should be the official addition to the pledge, which would finally make it no longer violate the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment (if you’re tired of me linking to it, too fucking bad! You guys need to pay attention to it). Considering how the pledge is itself kind of a violation of everything the Founding Fathers believed in, it’ll at least be a good compromise.
The Book of Job explained!
The only lesson I can gather from the story of Job is he was a pawn in a cosmic pissing match between God and the Devil. Had this actually happened, I would have been disgusted, but luckily it’s just your typical desert people myth. Man with lots of wealth gets fucked over but keeps on believing in God. The lesson: don’t expect to have a good life even if you are devout. What a fair deal, no?
