Scientologists are so sensitive

You’ll notice the familiar use of the word “offensive” in this video, and it’s the reason this douchebag walks off during the interview. I’ve been accused of this on multiple occasions by religious people myself, and it’s simply a way for people to mask their stupid or worthless opinions. It’s not like the guy answered the question at all, and hiding behind the shield of “respect my faith” is just more of the same intellectual cowardice I’ve come to expect from highly religious folks. I think in general we all need to stop using the “offensive” card any time we are upset. So someone said something you didn’t like; big fucking deal. If you refuse to answer a question because you think it’s rude, then you’ve proven only that your mind is incapable of being open enough to look past something as trivial as language.

Scientology lays the smack down on members

According to four former high ranking church members, their leader David Miscavige is a violent bully who randomly and viciously attacks members of his own organization. They claim that on dozens of occasions they witnessed him attacking someone for ‘violations’ ranging from looking at him funny, to not answering questions fast enough. Miscaviage’s huge legal team denies these allegations.

Personally, if this story is true I’m not entirely surprised. I’ve seen the tactics they employ to ‘free’ people of thetans. These often involve a great deal of shaming, screaming, and yelling (where you need to stay absolutely still and show no emotion in the face of such attacks). It’s a form of mental abuse, so news that the physical kind is also prevalent in this organization isn’t very shocking.

This isn’t the first time the church has been accused of abuse, and it certainly won’t be the last. When has an organized religion ever avoided a major scandal? It’s practically a requirement these days. If you aren’t physically abusing kids, advising husbands to beat their wives when they are disobedient, or slapping your staff around, what kind of religion are you?

The Good Atheist Podcast: EP 063

Welcome back to another episode of The Good Atheist Podcast! This week, Ryan and I do our best to lambaste the Catholic Church and their attempts to cover up the systematic abuse of children. We also amuse ourselves with the recent news of Wikipedia clamping down on Scientology.

Scientology is in the news again

Scientology is in the news again, and that’s not usually a good sign. As we speak, the French, who have not recognized Scientology as a religion, are threatening to dissolve the organization due to its campaign of fraud.

The case in question revolves around a woman who was recruited by the church back in 1998. In the span of a few months, her bank account had been tapped by purchasing books, vitamins, and auditing sessions costing well over €20,000. Others have also joined in the lawsuit, citing similar experiences.

Depending on the judgment of the court, Scientology could lose the right to recruit new members, and its bookstore could be shut down. This has led to protest on the part of the Church. Their lawyer, Patrick Maisonneuve, had this to say:

The discovery of a pedophile priest does not allow us to question the entire Catholic Church

Actually Patrick, you make a good point. Fraud is a serious crime, but pedophilia is far worst, and Ireland hasn’t made Christianity illegal. It’s clearly a form of favoritism, but I’m going to let you in on a little secret, Patrick: life isn’t fair, and the Catholic church should be dissolved, but won’t be. In the meantime, we ask that you take your bullshit pyramid scheme somewhere else; presumably, on one of Xenu’s distant planets.

Below is a separate news report from MSNBC. It’s a pretty innocuous piece, and I’m not impressed they never mention the huge volume of ex-members whose lives and bank accounts have been ruined by the church’. Scientology is nothing more than a money making scheme designed to look like a religion. Their spokesperson / automaton, Tom Cruise, is a self deluded, undereducated cretin who thinks mental illness can be cured with vitamins. Truly, the man, and his organization, is a fucking menace.

Scientology is at it again

Scientologists love to attack psychiatry. They believe it is responsible somehow for all of the evils in the world. They deride all prescription drugs, which they view as fundamentally changing someone’s personality. This coming from a group whose main intent is to make money, and to mentally enslave people strikes me as ironic, to say the least.

According to the moron in this video, Bin Laden is a patsy of a much more dangerous individual. The real threat is psychology, used to brainwash terrorists and to turn them into killers using prescription drugs. They claim that Bin Laden would have not tried to kill Americans if he hadn’t been conditioned by a al-Zawahiri, who they believe is a psychiatrist. In truth, he’s a surgeon, but this minor inconvenience is completely ignored by these clowns. They prefer the comfortable bubble of delusion.

I’m sick and tired of everyone under the sun trying to make insane claims that cannot be proven. There are all kinds of groups who love to blame their specific scapegoats for the events of 9/11. Scientologists running around trying to put the blame on mental health practitioners is nothing short of insane. Not only are they terribly uneducated about the history and purpose of psychology, they are also incredibly delusional to think their own stupid beliefs were not influenced by psychology. L. Ron Hubbard used primitive psychological techniques in his own greedy religion, and declared it heretical specifically because he feared mental health practitioners would strongly disagree with his dangerous use of mental control and brainwashing techniques.

Scientologists are enemies of reason, decency, science in general, and in particular, enemies of people with dangerous or deadly mental health issues. They preach vitamin use for autistic kids, schizophrenics, and people suffering from chronic depression. Last time I checked, Flintstones chewable vitamins didn’t do shit.

These guys need to be brought to task and called out for making insane claims that endanger the health of individuals. It is the duty of all media organizations to take a hard stance against obvious liars and charlatans. These assholes certainly fit the bill, wouldn’t you say?

Bart Simpson is promoting Scientology

When I was a kid, the show everyone was talking about on Monday morning was the Simpsons. There was no doubt in my mind it was my generation’s quintessential program, and it practically defined our sense of humor. My friends and I would often quote lines from episodes if the situation was appropriate.

Of course, the show isn’t what it used to be. The characters are now stale; the writers have lost their fundamental understanding of them. Still, the legacy they built isn’t something that can be easily taken away, which is why the shameless promotion of Scientology by Nancy Cartwright, the voice of Bart Simpson, is a fucking slap in the face. It was easy to hate this pyramid scheme cult when they had their spokesperson jumping up and down on couches with a creepy smile on his face. It’s another to record Bart Simpson for a cold calling machine to invite people to attend an auditing service.

Scientology is the ultimate in greedy religion. Audits are ways of extracting money out of people. It’s the equivalent of Amway really, except instead of selling you shitty soap, they’ll brainwash you so badly that you’ll let your autistic son die of a seizure rather than admit his condition exists. Yeah, I’m referring to you, John Travolta. Idiot.

I hope Fox takes action on this. Beloved cartoon characters shouldn’t be used to promote anything more harmful than a crappy candy bar, especially not sick cults whose paranoia regarding mental health can only be described as borderline psychotic.
