With the Epstein Files still causing all kinds of havoc, can we all take a moment and reflect on why literal child sex traffickers are going unpunished? See, there’s already been examples of systematic abuse for over a century, and yet, very little is ever done to stop them. I am referring of course to the Catholic Church. How many times have they been caught not only abusing people, but covering it up? These guys make the Epstein Files look quaint. A few hundred abused people maybe. The Church has sexually abused hundreds of thousands of kids. Maybe even in the millions.
So, how many priests pay the price for all this horror? Well, thanks to the tireless efforts of the organization, very few! Just take Rhode Island. This tiny state has a population of around 150,000. Conservatively, investigators estimate that hundreds of kids were molested, but this number is assumed to be much larger, as they became aware of just how effective priests were in covering up any abuses.
Church records show the diocese transferred accused priests to new assignments without fully investigating complaints or contacting law enforcement, a practice exposed in investigations in Boston, Philadelphia and elsewhere.
Ah, the old “molester shuffle” that these guys like to play, always ensuring that there are fresh new children to be victimized. It’s like a conveyor belt of rape. The most disgusting this in all of this is that the church is patting itself on the back for providing limited paperwork to help the investigation. In reality they have stonewalled investigators and treated all of these abuse allegations as ancient history they are eager to forget.
We won’t forget, and we certainly won’t forgive, but if you’ve ever wondered to yourself why it’s so hard to convict child sexual predators, just remember that there are organizations out there (most of them religious) that have been covering this stuff up for over 2 millennia (there are reports from the very early church of abuses starting real early). People in power have always been good at avoiding accountability, ensuring that they can continue to victimize the weak. The old Catholic playbook of burying the truth has been adopted and perfected it seems.
Desperation is a stinky cologne. It’s also responsible for their pathetic attempt to try and appeal to young people with an
I’ve always found it a useful exercise to put myself in the shoes of others. As a writer, there are immense advantages to doing so. I am not a young woman graduating from college, but I know that if I were, I would have been fuming if the Commencement speaker was telling me that I would be better off barefoot and preggers, rather than starting a career with the degree I worked so hard for.
